In Class Experiment groups, Email MOS Consultant with update and 3 questions, CC: Mrs. Goe
Journal Entry #19 Variables
-
- What variables ( at least 10 ) are important in your scientific study?
- Describe how you will measure each of these variables. Include units and names of measuring equipment.
- Next to each variable write whether it is a quantitative or qualitative. Write a brief paragraph describe the difference between quantitative and qualitative variables.
- Is your experiment controlled? Why or why not? What does it mean to have a controlled experiment?
What are constants? What will you set your constants as? Provide reasoning for each setting.
Journal Entry #20 Data table
Directions: Draw a data table for your independent and dependent variables. Include the units. List the 5 levels of the independent variable you will test. Include room for 5 trials.
HWK due typed Report with 7 sections will be graded using attached rubric worth 100 pts.
1) Intro and Purpose (include testable question and relevance statement)
2) Background ( IV, DV, Connection )
3) Hypothesis
4) Materials
5) Procedure
6) Appendix (all molar mass, hypothesis calculations)
7) Bibliography (at least 5 sources)

HWK due Variables (2 ΒΆ) draft #2 typed
Wednesday Feb 10 Snow Day!
Friday Feb 12
In Class check for journal entry #8-20, report revisions
Sample Data :
- 10 grams of Zn + 50mL of 1M HCl produced a temperature in Celsius of 45, 33, 43, and 42.
- 20 grams of Zn + 50mL of 1M HCL produced a temperature in Celsius of 47, 45, 45, and 49.
- 30 grams of Zn + 50mL of 1M HCL produced a temperature in Celsius of 52, 49, 53, and 52.
Journal Entry #21 Data Analysis
Directions: Use the sample data above to answer the questions below in complete sentences in your notebook.
- Use the sample data above to create a data table.
- What is the independent and dependent variable of this experiment? Which variables are kept constant? How do you know?
- What are the levels of the independent variable? How many are there? How many trials were performed?
- Calculate the average of each level of the IV. Explain how it was calculated and why it is significant.
- Is this data positively or negatively correlated or is there no correlation? Explain your reasoning.
- Are the number of trials and levels sufficient to conclude how the independent and dependent variable are correlated? Explain.
- If a student were to redo this experiment what changes would you propose?
Journal Entry #22 Error Analysis Questions
Directions: Use the sample data above to answer the questions below in complete sentences in your notebook.
- Explain in your own words what is an "outlier" in terms of data sets?
- How do you find an outlier in a data set? How would you compare each point?
- Are there any outliers in the data? Where would you look to figure this out?
