Hi XRDS 9:
I apologize that I misplaced your beautifully color-printed mandala article.
HOMEWORK DIRECTIONS:
1. Open link: http://www.asia.si.edu/exhibitions/online/mandala/mandala.htm
2. Read article
**You do not need to read the section titled "Drepung Loseling Monastery"**
**A deity is a higher power or god/goddess**
3. Answer questions (based on article and film clip we watched in class)
Each response must be at least 5 sentences long.
- What is your reaction to observing the painstaking attention to detail required to produce the mandala, and then seeing it destroyed?
- Why might it be important to recognize the impermanence (not permanent) of things? How does this idea connect to Buddhism?
- Beyond being something beautiful to look at, what else can mandalas inspire in people?
- If you were to design your own mandala, what would you include to secure your path to enlightenment? You can include a visual if you would like, but be sure to explain each part.
**If you need to watch the short film clip, follow the instructions below**
1) Go to: http://www.teachersdomain.org/
2) In the advanced search box, type "mandalas"
3) A link titled "Tibetan Buddhist Mandala" should pop up. Click on it.
4) Then, click on "view" or "download" to watch the short film clip.
You should not need to sign in and create an account. Viewers are granted a few "free" views without registering.
Email (meredith.hubbell@gmail.com), text, or call with questions.
Thanks for your patience,
Ms. Hubbell
